The moisturizer that lets you keep using the active line. A high concentration of aloe vera takes the edge off retinoid-induced redness, while squalane, glycerin, and dimethicone rebuild the moisture barrier without sitting heavy on acne-prone skin. Light. Calming. Breakout-safe.

Best for

This is the moisturizer for the acne-prone patient using actives like retinoids and AHAs, where most existing options feel either too thin to help or too heavy to apply without triggering breakouts.

Acne Recovery Cream is engineered for that exact gap. Aloe vera at high concentration calms retinoid-related redness and reactivity, while glycerin and squalane handle hydration and barrier repair. Dimethicone creates a breathable moisture seal that locks water in without clogging pores.

The result: visible calm of dryness, tightness, and redness—while staying breakout-safe on actively acne-prone skin.

Key ingredients

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, the second ingredient in the formula by concentration; a clinically-studied anti-inflammatory humectant that calms redness, reduces reactivity, and pulls water into the skin without weighing it down
Glycerin, a small-molecule humectant that draws moisture into the deeper layers of the epidermis — the workhorse hydrator that keeps the formula effective at high doses without occluding
Squalane, a biomimetic emollient that mirrors the skin's own sebum profile — restores barrier lipids without the comedogenic risk of plant oils or synthetic occlusives

Dimethicone, a non-comedogenic silicone that creates a breathable moisture seal on the skin's surface, locking in hydration and protecting against trans-epidermal water loss without triggering breakouts

How to use

Apply morning and evening, after your actives, to clean skin. A pea-sized amount is sufficient for the full face and neck. Press in with the pads of the fingers — do not rub. Wait one minute before layering sunscreen in the morning.

Morning application
  • Cleanse
  • Apply Acne Recovery Cream
  • Apply SPF

Evening application
  • Cleanse
  • Apply your active (The Afterglow on alternate nights, or your prescription retinoid)
  • Wait one full minute for the active to absorb
  • Layer Acne Recovery Cream on top

On Aggressive Protocols If you're using daily Retinol, AHA pads three nights weekly, or prescription tretinoin, you can apply Acne Recovery Cream more liberally on reactive nights. It's breakout-safe at any application thickness.

Why Dr. Linkner loves it

I see it every week: patients three months into a protocol that's genuinely working—fewer breakouts, clearer skin—but their barrier is destroyed. Tight, flaky, red, reactive. They're about to quit because they can't live in their skin anymore. That's when a moisturizer matters most. And that's when most acne-prone moisturizers fail, because they're designed for either the oily teenager who needs a thin lotion or the dry patient who can tolerate heavy occlusive. The acne-prone adult on an active protocol needs both—real barrier rebuilding and a texture that won't trigger a breakout.

Acne Recovery Cream is what I formulated to keep my patients on the protocol. Aloe vera at high concentration takes the edge off retinoid redness. Glycerin and squalane hold hydration. Dimethicone seals without clogging. It's the bridge that makes the rest of the line possible to use—the difference between a protocol that works on paper and one that works on your face.
