RVL The Afterglow Serum

Regular price 1 fl oz , $95.00 $0.00

A daily resurfacing serum built for the skin that has been through it. Lactic acid does the gentlest of the AHA work — exfoliating without stripping — while a peptide complex, Saccharomyces Xylinum, and Black Tea ferment do the recovery work alongside it. The blemishing fades. The texture refines. The skin gets quiet again.

Best for

This is the serum for post-acne skin—dark spots, uneven tone, texture that won't reset. It addresses the blemishing that outlasts the breakout.

Lactic acid is the gentlest AHA: it penetrates slowly, hydrates while it exfoliates, and won't wreck the barrier of acne-prone skin in your 30s and 40s. The formula adds peptides, polyglutamic acid, and a six-humectant hydration system to keep skin comfortable through resurfacing. Visibly improves post-acne hyperpigmentation, refines texture, and evens tone without irritation.

Key ingredients

10% Lactic Acid, the most forgiving of the alpha hydroxy acids. Its larger molecular size means slower, gentler penetration; it hydrates while it exfoliates and brightens out blemishing without compromising the barrier
Clinical Peptide Complex, a four-peptide stack (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Tripeptide-1, Tetrapeptide-7, Tripeptide-38) selected to support collagen synthesis, skin renewal, and the structural recovery of post-blemish tissue
Polyglutamic Acid, a premium humectant that holds up to four times more water than hyaluronic acid — visibly plumps and smooths the skin's surface during the resurfacing process
Saccharomyces / Xylinum / Black Tea Ferment, a combined bio-fermented active that delivers a dense matrix of amino acids and antioxidant polyphenols — smooths texture and helps calm post-inflammatory redness
Six-Humectant Hydration Matrix, glycerin, sodium PCA, hydroxyethyl urea, polyglutamic acid, sodium hyaluronate, and pentylene glycol layered at multiple molecular sizes to keep the formula comfortable on actively exfoliating skin

How to use

At night, after cleansing and patting skin dry, apply 3–4 drops to the face and neck. Press in gently with clean hands—do not rub. Wait one full minute, then follow with your PM moisturizer.

Building Your Schedule
  • Start at three nights per week and gradually build to five as your skin tolerates. The blemishing fades with consistency, not intensity — regular use at a moderate frequency is more effective than aggressive, infrequent dosing.
If You're Using Prescription Retinoids
  • Alternate nights: use The Afterglow one night, your retinoid the next. Never use both on the same night.
If You're Using RVL Acne Pads
  • Switch to The Afterglow for your face on alternate nights. Continue using the pads on your body for breakthrough acne only. The Morning After
Daily SPF is non-negotiable.
  • Resurfacing actives reveal newer skin that needs protection. Use Sensitive Sunscreen SPF 50 the morning after every application.

Why Dr. Linkner loves it

The hardest step for acne-prone skin is finding something that brightens the aftermath without being too aggressive. Most options — high-strength glycolic, stacked retinoids, vitamin C — get the skin brighter briefly, then reactive. Back to square one. The Afterglow solves that. Lactic acid penetrates slower and more evenly than glycolic, so the resurfacing happens without compromising the barrier. The peptide complex and ferment system support recovery during the exfoliation, not after. The skin gets the brightening without paying for it in irritation.

I reach for this when a patient says "my acne is gone but my skin still doesn't look like mine." Three weeks of consistent use does what three months of aggressive resurfacing usually cannot — the texture refines, the blemishing brightens, the skin quiets down. I use it on my non-retinoid nights, and I tell my patients to do the same. It absorbs in under a minute, layers cleanly, and doesn't sting — which matters, because patients stop using products that hurt.
